The Hatch Start Incubation project was established with an aim to provide start-up incubation support including skills training workshops, coaching and mentoring as well as seed capital financing for youth and women (18-35) entrepreneurs at idea to seed stage in Malawi.
This project was implemented through a consortium led by Mzuzu E-Hub, mHub and ACADES with support from World University Service Canada (WUSC) from Nov 2020 to Nov 2022 with a grant of CAD $59,790.
The program targeted 150 participants (90 female, 60 male) across Malawi but reached a total of 165 participants (26F, 103M). The program had 6 cohorts in total and a total of 7 young entrepreneurs were awarded seed capital funding through pitch sessions that were independently conducted by Mzuzu E-Hub, ACADES and mHub as a consortium. Entrepreneurs from these cohorts ranged from renewable energy, agriculture, animal production, tourism to technology.
The incubation program included capacity building trainings, learning visits, peer to peer learning, coaching, mentorship, pitch sessions, market linkages and post incubation support.
